Note of using bleach for Disinfect Sink

When we are cleaning our kitchen sink here is an issue of Disinfection. Bacteria is sneaky that is why they can grow pretty much at any place. So we should disinfect our sink every time. Let’s talk about the ways you should follow to disinfect the kitchen sink.

I would like to recommend you use Bleaching powder to disinfect your sink. Because it is highly effective to remove bacteria, mould, & viruses. But it can be dangerous if you use it incorrectly. Here a few ways to use it safely.

Clean the surface with mild soap water first. The reason is bleach is just a disinfectant but not a cleaner. To complete the cleaning process first.

Do not use an excessive amount of bleach, little amounts can give you a long term result. Just take one tablespoon or less for your sink ration with 1-gallon water. This will help you to get a good result.

Never mix it with any kind of cleaner. Like rubbing alcohol, ammonia, vinegar, or others. That can create toxic fumes.

Do not use it with hot water. Using hot water will develop the bacteria or virus in bleach. Coldwater helps to dilute it.

Tools & materials you need

  • Dish soap
  • Sponge
  • Bleach
  • Rubber gloves
  • White vinegar
  • Nylon soft brush
  • Baking soda
  • Cream of tartar
  • Olive oil
  • Clean, dry with a microfiber cloth or dish towel

Start with empty sink area –

Make sure that there are no food or dirty dishes or bowls beside your sink area or on the sink surface. To make this project work easy & simple keep aside all things or materials from the kitchen sink zone.

Rinse the sink, countertop & faucet area with water

To make sure that there are no food particles on the sink surface, rinse with water. Wet the faucet & countertop area with plain water. If you find any stubborn fix on the surface of the basin squirt with dish soap & hot water.

Coating with baking soda

Take a little amount of baking soda to coat the sink. This substance will never make any scratch just because of its powder effect. With light water, you can tackle this cleaning process to remove the grease also. Removing the smell of using toxic chemicals is another task of this substance. To get better controlling you can pour the powder into a clean parmesan. Then you can spread it.

Scrub the steel grain

Take a soft scrub nylon brush to rub the powder of baking soda. Keep an alarming thing in mind: you can’t use any hardy steel brush, steel wool, or abrasive pads. These will be the reason for more scratches. When you use hardy or steel materials to clean your stainless steel it will definitely create a crush on the surface. So avoid all metal particles to clean your stainless sink. For narrow or tight space you can use a toothbrush.

Spray undiluted vinegar

The next step is to spray undiluted vinegar over the remaining baking soda. When both substances come into close contact, it will be fizz. Take an extra scrubbing action. The acidity effect of the vinegar will automatically disinfect. Wait a minute to start a chemical reaction & make the mixture fizzle out.

Use the paste of vinegar with tartar cream

If that previous chemical makes you fully satisfied then you can apply a paste of vinegar with tartar cream. Put ¼ tartar cream  & 1 cup white vinegar in a pot. Then mix it properly like a paste. This is an essential ingredient of removing any stain. Apply this paste on the remaining stains on the stainless steel sink. Rub with a cloth gently. Leave in this condition for five minutes. This will help to lose the stain from steel skin. This secondary mixture is optional. So you don’t need to use it if you get a shiny look by using the previous solution then you can go forward to the next step.

Buff with a few drops of olive oil

After completing the primary & secondary step you should rinse the surface with plain water. Now come the last but not the least, finishing touch. Clean the skin, surface & upper countertop of your basin area & dry it with a soft clean cloth. To get extra shine, apply a few drops of olive oil. Buff it with a lint-free cloth on the sink area. Fixture until the sparkle come back.
